Preparations and contraindications

Pre-procedure

  • This includes drinks with espresso, Red Bull, Monster or other energy drinks, 5-hour Energy shots, No Doz pills and any diet pills containing caffeine. This increases blood pressure and can slow the ability for your blood to clot causing excess bleeding. It can also affect the nervous system causing jitters.

  • This thins the blood and can lead to excess bleeding. I will under no circumstances perform procedures if you arrive to your appointment under the influence of alcohol or street drugs.

  • Being well hydrated allows your body to be less sensitive, helps your body regenerate, and heal faster. Properly hydrated skin is also much easier to tattoo.

  • Meals with whole grains, vegetables, lean protein, and nuts will keep your blood sugar levels the most steady over time.

  • While support may be comforting, no guests are allowed in the PMU studio while the procedure is being performed. Anyone you bring will have to wait in the lobby.

  • Some clients like to download their favorite podcast, audio book or a relaxing playlist to their phone to enjoy during the procedure. I offer phone chargers and we provide secure guest wifi if needed.

  • You will be laying down for your procedure so consider a hairstyle that will be comfortable and not in the way. For those with long hair, low side ponytails are typically best. If you have bangs, I have one time use, adjustable spa headbands on hand.

Tips FOR The day of your Procedure

*All PMU clients are required to complete a client intake form and provide a government issued photo ID the day of their appointment.

  • Slight swelling with varying degrees of redness may occur. Fairer complexions will tend to have more redness. Some light scabbing or peeling may occur. Do not pick, itch or scratch with fingers, nails or any type of instrument.

Infections are extremely rare, however, if a red ring appears around your brows, seek immediate medical attention.

The day of your procedure: Pat lightly to remove any fluid as needed with a clean tissue.

Day 2: Wash brows gently with warm water and a mild, unscented soap using fingertips. Pat dry with soft, clean cloth or paper towel.

Day 3 – 7: Apply After Inked cream daily in the A.M. or as needed to prevent area from drying out. Use only a small amount, approximately the size of a grain of rice, and apply with a clean cotton swab. Don’t be alarmed if some pigment comes off on the cotton swab when applying aftercare.

While healing, avoid placing your face directly into a hot shower, avoid swimming pools, the ocean, hot tubs and saunas. If possible, try to prevent excessive perspiration. A sweatband may help prevent sweat from dripping down the face while exercising.

Changing your pillowcase nightly is highly recommended for the first 7 days. Sleeping with pets is not advised for the first week of healing.

For a minimum of 2 weeks after your procedure, do not apply makeup or skincare directly on your brows or to the surrounding area. Avoid manual exfoliates (facial scrubs) and chemical exfoliates. Avoid washes, moisturizers, lotions, creams, serums or masks with ingredients such as alpha-hydroxy acid, hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid, malic acid, ascorbic acid, tartaric acid, ferulic acid, beta hydroxy acid, fruit enzymes, vitamin C, retin-A, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide and/or adapalene. Direct sun exposure should be avoided. However, do not apply sunscreen to the freshly tattooed area. Large sunglasses and hats with a brim that shade your upper face are recommended if sun exposure cannot be avoided. Tanning beds, sun lamps and sunless tanning lotions should also not be used on the face during the healing process. After 6 weeks, sunscreen should be applied daily to your healed cosmetic tattoo.

If planning a chemical peel, MRI or other medical procedure, notify the technician that you have a cosmetic tattoo. If planning to have laser hair removal or a photo facial using IPL, notify your laser specialist of your cosmetic tattoo so this area may be avoided by the laser. Both ablative and non-ablative lasers may cause pigment to turn black.

    What to expect during healing:

Right after the procedure your fresh, new brows will appear dark, likely darker than you anticipated. The skin is open and the micropigments inserted are visible on the surface. This is normal and is not a reflection of the ultimate result.

In approximately 2 weeks time, your skin will have healed over and your brows will look significantly lighter. This is also completely normal.

After 6-8 weeks your brows will typically get a bit darker again and as they become fully healed, this will now be the true result.

After 6 weeks, if you feel any adjustments need to be made to your healed eyebrows, you may call Alliance Tattoo & Piercing at (848) 223 - 7419 to schedule a touch up appointment.

  • Various degrees of swelling may occur, generally for the first few mornings. You can sleep propped up or on your back to help reduce swelling. DO NOT press the ice pack against your eyes. Avoid high sodium foods to help reduce swelling (for at least the first 3 days).

Day of procedure & Day 2: Wash eyelids gently with a mild, unscented soap and warm water, lightly using fingertips. Rinse well and lightly pat dry with a clean cloth. Apply nothing.

Day 3: Apply nothing. No need to wash unless lashes are stuck together.

Day 4 -7: Apply nothing. Allow your eyeliner to dry heal. There should be no need to wash until fully healed. Then, resume regular routine.

Avoid eye creams, Latisse or other lash growth products. Refrain from applying any lash tints, lash extensions or using false lashes for at least 2 weeks following your procedure.

Your eyeball should never become more red after your procedure. Seek medical attention if you see signs of red, bloodshot eyes or puss in the corners of your eye(s). This could be a sign of an infection, requiring a physician to treat and prescribe medication.

Your lip color will be bold and opaque immediately following your procedure. This is normal. As they heal, the lip pigment tends to fade 40% - 60%.
